Young dies who is dear to the gods...
John Francis Anthony "Jaco" Pastorius III (1951-1987), bassist, drummer, pianist. Let's talk about jazz, in its most fusion and free connotation.
Solely responsible for the historical transformation of the electric bass from a mere accompaniment instrument to a true solo element, on the same level as the piano, guitar, or woodwinds. At twenty-five, he was recruited into Weather Report and transformed them, immediately participating in the compositional phase, turning the innovative and very serious jazz ensemble into true rockstars, uh, jazzstars, complete with sold-out tours and crowds of young rock fans converting to jazz thanks to them, their funky verve, and their bassist, indeed, Jaco, with the appearance of a long-haired hippie, always bare-chested, extremely virtuosic and communicative like no one else.
Cause of death: Beaten to death by a nightclub manager in Fort Lauderdale after he had shown up several times at the door completely drunk. For some time he had returned to the city of his adolescence but lived there like an outcast, begging and sleeping outdoors, experiencing crises of pure bipolar nature, drinking and doing everything he could find within reach.
He is buried in the cemetery in Fort Lauderdale, and on the tombstone, he is noted as Jaco John Francis Pastorius III.
