Welcome Back in high school (mid-'70s), a classmate of mine argued that this version of "Welcome," performed by Carlos Santana, seemed too slow and therefore less effective than John Coltrane's original. However, in my opinion, it is just as beautiful for its rarefied and dreamy atmosphere, almost reproducing the sound of a cascade of diamonds and precious stones, well-suited for an evening listen after an intense day. Moreover, in 1973, Carlos Santana was still inclined to explore jazz musical territories and had not yet succumbed to easy outcomes of Latin pop. Definitely worth revisiting.
