I went looking for something written about the beginnings of the DDR and found more than I was looking for. In particular, a beautiful article by some Paolo Barone (who the hell I don’t know, savansadir) after seeing them with the Cramps, yes those Cramps at Fillmore West, yes that Fillmore West on Tim Tirelli’s site, one of the craziest music freaks out there... a guy burnt out for all possible genres. One who in the mid-eighties, just over twenty, wrote Oh Jimmy, a real summary on the Zepp (in addition to a cool homonymous one), a truly chronically obsessed one... and indeed he is nobly burnt out. Then an engaging “Ultima Thule.” a wonderful review by Federico Guglielmi, which starts “it’s useless to deny it: there are groups like the Demolition Doll Rods - two wild sisters with their tits out, an ex Gories dressed like a lowlife drag queen) who today bear the difficult task of guardians of the unquenchable fire of rock’n’roll. At least of that rock’n’roll...”
