The Leaves-Hey Joe

“If the Northwest had Louie Louie, the Southeast had Hey Joe. Undeniably, these were the two songs that above all others carved the abs of American garage bands in the mid-sixties, whether they had a more beat-oriented sound or one leaning towards acid rock or folk rock. It seems that David Crosby was the one who took Hey Joe for a stroll down the Sunset Strip, after learning it directly from Dino Valenti, who claims it as his own despite the controversy with the alleged author Billy Roberts, who registered the rights on January 12, 1962, never having been clarified.”
