A man to whom Italian music owes much, much more than one would believe, has passed away today. A highly sensitive composer, excellent guitarist and keyboardist, a versatile singer endowed with a stunning range of notes and accents, a voice that was both seductive and soulful, which left audiences in awe live. I didn't particularly like the man, but it is well known that artistic talent often leaves little room for empathy—my own issues, although with age, he had softened and a near-perpetual smile had returned to his face: fate, indeed, has chosen to include him among that unfortunate group who must survive, as parents, the death of a daughter, for instance. He knew glory and money, a lot of money, founded, dissolved, re-established, and renamed the New Trolls, with whom he composed masterpieces and abominations, followed by quarrels and reconciliations, depression and inner peace. Ladies and gentlemen, Vittorio de Scalzi has died.
