The dawn globe shines raw orange over Palisades
bare branches huddle, bramble from the swamps
of New Jersey with my father on the highway
to Newark Airport – spire of the Empire State,
horned peaks of Manhattan
rise like in the eyes of W.C. Williams among the lattice of
utility poles
six-wheeled trucks march ceaselessly passing
beside New York – I am here
small beneath the sun rising in a vast white sky,
looking through the skeletons of new buildings,
pen in hand, awake…
