A non-exhaustive tour of the extraordinary Neapolitan musical heritage.
MARUZZELLA (Gennaro Cosmo Parlato)
I greatly appreciated Turturro's film, "Passione" from 2010, in which the actor and director, without claims of sociological or historiographical analysis, showcases a lively and non-stereotypical Naples, for which he has a sincere love. A multifaceted city that Turturro neither seeks to understand nor explain. The thread running through Turturro's journey is music, and the selection of tracks is truly excellent; I highly recommend listening to the soundtrack to anyone interested.
The version of "Maruzzella" by Gennaro Cosma Parlato is, in my opinion, one of the best tracks on the album. Cosma Parlato is a versatile artist, a personal interpreter balancing elegance and excess. If you get the chance, try listening to "Cosa c'è di strano?" his first work, where he covers songs from the '80s by famous Italian singers: I consider it a truly entertaining piece of work.
Cosma Parlato deserves greater success than what he has achieved so far, in my humble opinion.
