Ecce Homo - Scharl Josef (1931) [1-10]
The painting “Ecce homo / The Mutilated” by Josef Scharl shows the portrait of a World War I veteran, whose right half of the face is disfigured by a war wound. From the darkness of the image's background, the head dramatically shines, illuminated above the olive uniform jacket and the green scarf or sweater; the intact half of the face is portrayed in light yellow, while the ear and the mutilated area are sculpted into a fleshy mass with added red color.
