In the last few days, I've been listening to this CD quite a lot, now worn from use (it will soon turn 25 as well). 1977 by Ash is one of my favorite albums from that golden period, one of the most underrated, even though it had a nice success. When it was released, Tim Wheeler and the others were not even 20 years old. Yet, just listen to it. Post-punk/garage/alternative, massive guitars, pushed to the limit, an album that goes down smooth like a gin and tonic from start to finish. There isn't a dull moment. They inevitably ended up in the Britpop circle, which was at its peak, but they were never enthusiastic about it, they were rough Northern Irish. Before buying the album, I bought the single OH Yeah, another song worth noting, one of the best. A special edition for the 25th anniversary will be coming out soon. Enjoy it and get whipped if you’ve never listened to it (I’m speaking to my peers).
