Red Crayola/Red Krayola from Texas, well beyond the boundaries of psychedelia, made their debut with the unattainable "Parable Of Arable Land" (1968); Mayo Thompson, always at the forefront, sidestepping jazz, rock, and classical music; in England, he resides for a long time collaborating with the conceptual art collective Art and Language; in and out of post-punk, collaborating with musicians like Gina Birch (Raincoats), Epic Soundtracks (Swell Maps), Lora Logic (X-Ray Spex/Essential Logic), David Thomas (Pere Ubu, of which he will also become part), and also active as a producer (The Fall, Raincoats, Scritti Politti, Cabaret Voltaire, Stiff Little Fingers, The Chills, and Primal Scream); in the 90s he collaborates with the post-rock crew (Jim O'Rourke and David Grubbs of Gastr del Sol, John McEntire of Tortoise, and former Minuteman/firehose, Unknown Instructors’ Gorge Hurley). Thompson is an underground giant. The parabola of asphalt shredded: deconstructor of rock, deus ex machina of the avant-garde. Sardonic, iconoclastic, abstractist.
