6.Songs of the Cupa
A record that's been contemplated for a long time, perhaps for this reason it loses a bit of its effectiveness. Songs of the Cupa is an utterly over-the-top album, a double album split between Dust and Shadow. The first disc is indeed Dust, recorded back in 2003, and it contains 16 tracks, all bearing the complexity that has characterized Capossela's recent works, along with some small classics from his repertoire (Zompa la rondinella, Ratatatumpa). Shadow, on the other hand, was recorded in 2015 and in this album you can find the best results: La bestia del grano, Le creature della Cupa, Il Pumminale, La notte di San Giovanni, and Il treno, all tracks that embody the quality and evolution of Capossela up to now. In conclusion, Songs of the Cupa is Vinicio's most ambitious album, a choral work that reaches its peak in the second disc (shadow), while in the first dust we can happily encounter a younger Capossela grappling with intriguing songs.
Picky rating: 8 and a half
The gem (one for all): Vinicio Capossela | LA BESTIA NEL GRANO | Canzoni della Cupa

Canzoni della Cupa is the latest album by Vinicio Capossela, although calling it an album might be a bit too reductive given the depth of the author, who is nothing short of multifaceted. more
