THE AGE OF YARDBIRDS, or THE EPIC OF THE YARDBIRDS... (10)

So defined Mike Bongiorno in Sanremo, in 1966, where they presented this infamy alongside Lucio Dalla, in the "new" formation with two lead guitarists, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, the first having replaced Eric Clapton about a year earlier and the second having joined them after a brilliant start to his career as a highly sought-after session musician... Mike Bongiorno literally translated the band’s name to "backyard birds" and wanted to make the neatly dressed and stiff audience of the festival smile by extending the term to "Gallinacci," since they couldn’t say a word of Italian... He, may his soul rest in peace, was unaware that "Yardbird" was slang for "prisoner" but also for "foot soldier."
Oh well
