HOW TO RUIN A CAREER, ANGLOPHONE SECTION, vol. 3: Queen
(Derogation from the usual roundup of italic geniuses, bands, or soloists. This time we’re going to the English-speaking world; after all, shall we say it or not that not only in Italy are musical careers completed in a disgraceful and undignified manner that once paved the way for all?)
Friends, welcome to the ninth installment of a charming little column that I warn you to take in minimal doses and on an empty stomach. Inspired by excellent DeBaserian folks with a hobby of occasionally sticking two fingers down their throats, here I am to propose a few select listens concerning the disgusting side of the output of some Anglo-speaking bands or solo artists who have truly made history in music, once offering quality music with potential international appeal, only to later sink into a discography of the lowest caliber that leaves them, for the most part, unrecognizable to the ears of their former fans.
Let’s give voice to the foul trumpets, onward...
Today we illustrate the shitty phases of another band that, unlike others, embraced a more pop and brazenly commercial vein before many other contemporary bands did the same, demonstrating, if nothing else, a certain commercial instinct, shall we say. That the exceptional voice of Mercury has uplifted from the muck often less than mediocre tracks is a matter we’ve already discussed, and we risk boring ourselves by repeating it.
