The Beatles Live At The Cavern Club, Liverpool, UK (Wednesday 22nd August 1962)
The Cavern Club was the quintessential anti-capish venue. A hole in the ground where everyone was packed together, sweating, dancing, drinking, kissing, and touching like animals... young people are animals. They say there were smells so strong and mixed that they were totally indefinable. And anyway, everyone went there to hear the Beatles, who were returning for the third time from Hamburg and were changing Liverpool, England... and the world of Rock 'n' Roll. In Hamburg, John had left a piece of his heart losing Stuart, while back in Liverpool there was the Pete Best issue that almost ended it all.
Too good?! Too introverted?! The mom (who had launched the Quarrymen in her Cashbah) bothering everyone? All true... but there were protests against his firing. Then Ringo and his nobly goofy face turned out to be perfect, and he already knew them from Hamburg. The boys were ready... in London, no one cared about them; they'd have to sell a bit of their asses (but who doesn’t?) and then it’s History. To those who say they "didn’t pay their dues," as if they had been born with bowl cuts on stage in '64 with girls below them in ecstasy...
In those four years, a lot happened... you bet.
I love this Lennon; I can't stand the one after… savansadir.
