BARAD GULDUR - Sarneghera "The legend tells of the unhappy love of a girl from Montisola (Lake Iseo, BS) promised in marriage to a nobleman from Franciacorta. She would go every day to Sensole, where she would reflect on the waters of the lake and weep for her misfortune. One day, she fell into the water, but fortunately, a fisherman from Sarnico rushed to her aid and saved her. The two fell in love and were happy until the day the girl’s father, a local nobleman, discovered them and ordered his daughter not to see her beloved anymore, locking her away in the castle where they lived. The fisherman suffered a worse fate: he was imprisoned in a deep cave hidden among the woods of Mount Sarnico. For months, the two lovers lived in pain from the separation. The day of the girl’s wedding to the nobleman from Franciacorta arrived, and the lord ordered the death of the fisherman. The girl’s grief was immense, and taking advantage of her father’s inattention, she took her own life by throwing herself into the waters of the lake, in order to be reunited with her fisherman. The legend says that when the Sarneghera storms, the two young lovers are searching for each other at the bottom of the lake and that the sky, in revenge, strikes down from Sarnico onto Montisola and Franciacorta."
