Queen Vida had all her people hide in the Cave of San Giovanni D’Antro (Valli del Natisone, Pulfero, Udine) to escape Attila's siege.
The Hun, unable to reach the steep entrance of the cave, waited with his men for the starving people to emerge voluntarily.
After several months, when there was only one sack of grain left, the Queen took it, stepped to the entrance of the cave, and threw it at Attila's feet. She boldly declared that she still had as many sacks of provisions as there were grains of wheat that had flowed out.
The chieftain then believed the Queen and decided to lift the siege, withdrawing his troops.
