10+10 Fishers Against the Wind. 3) Eilert Pilarm Eilert Pilarm - In The Ghetto
Ladies and GENTLEMEN, EILERT PILARM!
Eilert Dahlberg (who renamed himself Pilarm to get the initials E. P.) is the most famous Elvis impersonator in Sweden, or better yet, Eilert is the Swedish Elvis.
It’s not about physical resemblance (Eilert is somewhat blond, bald, and noticeably overweight), nor is it about his voice (apart from the tone and intonation, Eilert's English pronunciation is quite "free"), no, it’s much more than that: Eilert is Elvis.
Eilert himself has repeatedly stated how the spirit of Elvis has been within him since, as a young lumberjack, he realized (at a school party, where he performed "Love Me Tender" dressed as "the King") that he felt comfortable (and even enjoyed success) in the role of Elvis.
And success has not been lacking, not only in Sweden where he is a legend (TV appearances, shows, concerts, and even commercials - see below), but also in England where John Peel had him perform on the BBC (10 million viewers!) and awarded him the title of "Best Impersonation by a Swede in the Past 1000 Years."
Eilert retired from the stage in 2002 after recording 6 albums (and it doesn’t matter that his "Eilert Jul" was considered "the worst cover album of all time") and more than 600 concerts.
And if anyone thinks there’s something to laugh about, they have understood nothing...
