I prefer Battiato in a more sober style; for example, in this album "Il Mercante degli Dei," everything is very beautiful and not too dated. Then that pounding, cosmic synth kicks in (I have no idea if it's actually a synth or some other trick), which today, given the album, makes everything feel less personal, losing some of its charm. What I mean is that in his past works he tended to add too much.
