Charles Mingus - Original Faubus Fables

Little Rock, Arkansas, 1957.
The segregationist governor Orval E. Faubus opposes the historic Supreme Court decision that orders states to integrate African American students into public schools.
The showdown with the federal government and the Department of Justice ends in defeat for Faubus and the white supremacists: on September 24, President Eisenhower federalizes the Arkansas National Guard and sends troops to escort Black students who are finally admitted to classes.

Charles Mingus wrote the piece "Fables of Faubus" to include it in the album "Mingus Ah Um" (1959), but Columbia refused to allow the musician to record it with lyrics.
But Mingus did not give up and re-released the original piece the following year, for Candid Prod, titling it "Original Faubus Fables". (Source: WFMU)
