It was Columbia, in '64, that decided "Tom & Jerry" was not the right name for that duo of Jews from Forest Hills. They had actually already split up. But, given what Tom Wilson was able to extract from one of their songs (The Sound of Silence), which had initially gone completely unnoticed, it became clear to everyone that the duo needed to be reformed. The two were surprised by the moniker that so clearly declared their origin, but if it worked for Columbia...
And together they were perfect.
But Art was handsome, tall, blonde, and full of hair, and Paul couldn't stand him.
He needed to prove that the true genius was him.
And he succeeded, having recorded often extraordinary solo albums, and one "Graceland" that was nothing short of epochal.
But together they were perfect...
