August 1998. London. Groop Dogdrill at Barfly, a pub with a tiny concert hall attached (there were maybe 60, perhaps 70 of us, packed in like sardines)... their first album, Half Nelson, had just been released. One of the best concerts I’ve seen in many years of “militancy.” A trio with an incredible live power, I was astounded to witness the essence of rock'n'roll in these three northern Englishmen. Rhythm-blood-sweat&emotions. Unforgettable... and then, within two years and two albums, PUF, they disappeared... it remains one of 'my concerts' of all time... and I’ve seen quite a few, bloody hell (!)... magnificent! Of course, "life is stranger than shit"...
