2) Sly & the Family Stone Sly & The Family Stone "I Want To Take You Higher" LIVE on U.S. TV 7/74
I had a dream: whites, blacks, men, women, Italians, Hispanics, Asians, blue collar workers, laborers, students, unemployed, all together underneath and above a stage. All together dancing and singing.
Like a family.
Then the dream turned into a nightmare.
Drugs, fights, ambitions, naivety, paranoia; but also the strength of the (many) enemies of that dream.
And Demons.
One day Sly left home – it was Christmas Eve – his pockets were full of dollars, he wanted to buy many gifts for his wife and son.
When, that night, he returned home, he had empty hands and pockets.
No gifts under the tree.
The drugs had taken everything: the dream, the family, and what was left of Sly.
But somewhere, what was once Sly Stone still dreams occasionally, and we are still here to listen to his music.

"Sly Stone’s music is always aimed at the final explosion, a primal crescendo that must end in a resounding burst, shaking the listener." woodstock
