The Doors: Universal Mind
"Jim Morrison & the Doors on the road" (62)
Another rare gem from the live performance. This time it’s an old, sad, distressing blues base, not the classic energetic groove they usually infused into their blues. A halfway jazz break by John, Ray, and Robby directly lifted from Coltrane's "Afro Blue." One of the most brilliant examples of Morrison’s ability to write simple words with potentially infinite meanings. "Trapped in the universal mind" leaves little doubt; "I’m freeing the people" and especially "I am the man of freedom" instead can carry numerous possible nuances.
