The Doors - Moonlight Drive - Original Promo Video - HD "Jim Morrison & The Doors on the Road" (15) Even though it appears on the second album, it's the beginning of everything. Ray meets Jim, known at UCLA, on a beach in Venice and, after some small talk, asks what he had been up to lately; Morrison replied that, besides wandering around and living and sleeping on a rooftop, he had been writing songs. With his head down from shyness, he started to hum the first lines of Moonlight Drive. Jim had zero musical education, but during that summer of 1965, some writings came out as songs instead of poems: "a concert in my mind, I could hear all the musical arrangement; for me, a song is born first from the music, from the rhythm, from the sound, then I would put the words in" strange for someone who didn’t know how to play a thing... "Let's swing to the Moon, let's climb through the Tide, penetrate the evening that the City sleeps to hide..." beautiful, it moves me over and over again.
