The allure of bizarre experiments is strong, and often the draw is rewarded by their quality: here's a clear case where this doesn't happen at all. Organ is a side-project of the very twisted (V.E.G.A.), an Italo-Norwegian group that produces panic-inducing black metal, obsessed with cocaine.
The aim of the three Norwegians is to combine raw black sounds with post-rock passages. Technically, we get it, but the chaos that results is so unripe that the records are actually unlistenable. To start with, "Apoplexy in six parts" consists of 2 CDs, the first experimental and the second totally electronic, which to call it bland would be an insult to potatoes. The total of the two combined is barely 39 minutes...
The six parts of the first, the six apoplexies, are very fast tracks with indefinable atmospheres, chaotic, annoying, and often senseless. I believe the drums are not played, but programmed on a drum machine, given the inhuman tempos it would otherwise be subjected to. Often there’s the feeling that the three strike the right riff combination, but they quickly contradict themselves within a few seconds. All this in just over 13 minutes.
The second CD encloses the worst mix of noise I have ever encountered, there is neither criterion nor sense. Passages of noise, ambient, minimalist, techno, and absurdities that I think don't yet have a name for definition. In practice, the instruments change but not the approach, making everything even more annoying.
Perhaps one day someone will say that they invented a new genre, that they have imagination, that they revolutionize music, but as of now, I think it is difficult to say that such work is appreciable: three-fifths electronic lacking references, two-fifths experimental rock/metal devoid of emotion.
