Beer, roughness, nights of revelry. They don't come from the USA but from "cold" England. Their music is stoner rock or stoner metal, call it what you like: the important thing is to know that their music opens the minds.

We are in London in 1995 when a band called "Our Haunted Kingdom" was born, which would later transform into Orange Goblin. They emerged during the period when the stoner genre was at its peak thanks to the American bands Kyuss, Sleep, and Monster Magnet. A genre that quickly developed in Europe and saw the birth of some very interesting bands (but not able to rival the stars and stripes). Orange Goblin, Spiritual Beggars, and Dozer contributed to expanding the range of stoner in Europe, and particularly, the Orange Goblin are considered the only ones who can contend with the American "masters."

Led by the rough singer Ben Ward, the six (at the time) "orange goblins" debuted in 1997 with the excellent "Frequencies from planet ten." A year later, here they are again with another album full of interplanetary journeys, hallucinogenic visions and tons of sand. "Time travelling blues" carves a respectable place in the Orange discography and is rightly defined as one of their most successful albums. Songs like "Blue snow," "Solarisphere," "Shine," and "Lunarville 7, Airlock 3" are there to demonstrate the relentlessly uncompromising energy of the London band.

In their albums, we don't find the thematic and philosophical musings of post/psychedelic/symphonic metal bands and various amenities: their albums are anthems to the filthiest rock, the kind whose sole purpose is to provoke headbanging and adrenaline. The instruments speak, the sand whistles. Splashes of psychedelia and hard rock then contribute to giving us a record that is not only roughness but also variety. For these reasons, "Time travelling blues" is one of the best-achieved stoner albums of the second "wave" of this genre and most embodies the stylistic canons of this way of making music.

01   Blue Snow (04:23)

02   Solarisphere (06:09)

03   Shine (06:56)

Dream on, dream on baby, let it go
Dream on baby, let it go
Fly so high, fly so high baby, let it go
Fly so high baby, let it go
You light my soul, you light my soul baby, let it go
You light my soul baby, let it go
I will shine, you will shine baby, let it go
We will shine baby, let it go

When the revelation comes, beyond the frozen sun
We must hide inside each other's moonlight, baby
Then when it's time to shine, it's written in your eyes
And we can live inside each other's daydreams maybe
Yeah!

You wanna ride with me now, you wanna fly so high
With eyes like holes in the sun, you're gonna touch the sky
Touch the sky
You wanna walk in the stars and tie yourself to the moon
You know your future is comin' and it's comin' soon
It's comin' soon

You want the druids to take you in their magic hands
And send your soul far beyond the walls of never lands
Never lands
And when we wake on the shores that bring the dawn of time
You know the light in your eyes, it will forever shine
Forever shine

Oh yeah!
Alright!
Shine on!

I am the sun that will shine forever in your heart
I am the stars that will shine for you when we're apart
When we're apart
And when we wake on the shores that bring the dawn of time
You know the light in your eyes, it will forever shine
Forever shine

Oh yeah!
Alright!
Shine on everyone!

we'll shine... we'll shine!...
Shine on!
Shine on, everyone!
C'mon!
C'mon!
C'mon and shine!
Shine!
Shine!
C'mon and shine!
Shine!
Shine!
C'mon and shine!

04   The Man Who Invented Time (03:48)

05   Diesel (Phunt) (02:46)

06   Snail Hook (05:48)

07   Nuclear Guru (06:16)

Father figure of invention
Universal soul within the planet's core
Read your tarot cards, Shangoma
Bring the Voodoo Child's creation to the fore

Supersonic information
Spiritual computer in your brainwashed mind
Send your evil ways throughout us
Cast your magic spell to end all of mankind

I know, oh I said I know

Operation radiation, interplanetary commotion
Blackest magical illusion, futuristic lord of this world

It's in effect from when you throw your magic bones
Littered galaxy with nuclo-phonic clones
Blind religious cult will always fail to see
Time creator and destroyer now supreme
Alright let's go

Now the world is your possession
Can you walk me through the orbital remains
Planets drifting, slowly melting
Radiation burns the lunar sonic plains

Astro-palace, fourth dimension
Neutrons gathered in a cosmagnetic shell
He's Satan's scientific offspring
Nuclear Guru of interplanetary hell

I know, oh I said I know

Mama said she's come to take us home
Leave this broken planet all alone
Find a world where love is here to stay
Peace and happiness in every day, it's gonna be okay
It's gonna be okay...

08   Lunarville 7, Airlock 3 (04:31)

At Lunarville 7, down at Airlock 3
There lives the old magician called Infinity
Sweet father of illusion, child of the stone
The Astral Wizard Master in a cosmic home

The Dragon Lord of Jupiter and Spaceblock One
The crimson void inertia and the seventh sun
Rider of the starchild unicorn, he saves
Children of eternity in astral graves

At Lunarville 7, down at Airlock 3
There dwells the evil spacewitch called Eternity
The Equinox of Saturn, Queen of Fire and Ice
Princess nocturnal demon, mistress of the night

She sails upon a meteoric butterfly
Through poison clouds of acid in a nitrate sky
Her quest for domination of the galaxy
She rids the universe of all infinity

Heaven in a nitrate sky
Beyond imagination's eye
Take my hand, with me you'll fly
Man you've never been this high

It's heaven in a nitrate sky
Beyond imagination's eye
Take my hand, with me you'll fly
Man you've never been this high

At Lunarville 7, down at Airlock 3
There's mountains made of crystal and a sonic sea
A psychedelic sunrise at the dawn of time
Electric moons that hum the tunes that blow your mind

Infinity the Wizard rides the starchild skies
And gathers rainbow diamonds for the Star Queen's eyes
Eternity the Spacewitch on her butterfly
Spreads dark and evil magic where the wizard rides

Heaven in a nitrate sky
Beyond imagination's eye
Take my hand, with me you'll fly
Man you've never been this high

Blue Snow is like a punch right to the face, dirty, rough, and cursed.

An album to listen to, re-listen to, and love forever!
