London-based contemporary string quartet founded in 1987 by Romanian violinist Alexander Bălănescu. Known for boundary-crossing projects, from contemporary classical and minimalism to high-profile collaborations and film scores. Gained wide attention with Possessed (1992), reimagining Kraftwerk for strings.
