THE REVIEW

I had already noticed this name. The other day, a friend tells me to download something from these Ok Go. And there you have it, after spending my twenty blue-euro notes at the store... I listen to this CD.

Ok Go is an American band hailing from Chicago and Washington, active since 1998, they released their first album (OK Go) under Major Capitol Records after two EPs. The band plays honest Rock, Power pop but with a certain talent and imagination that, in the opinion of the writer, makes them more interesting than that wave of recent American bands and others with "the" in front.

The sound of this quartet is, at its best moments, reminiscent of Pixies above all, with some flashes of emo-core and nods to certain Flaming Lips, but imagine it all in a nice bed of power pop that is catchy enough. The album goes excellently until track nr. 6 (excluding the horrendous slow ballad nr. 5 with a sincerely overused chorus), then gives the impression of sliding into oblivion and boredom. But only the rhythm and vaguely the sounds change. Fortunately, with "Bye Bye Baby" (nr. 8), it returns to good levels. Unfortunately, there are two/three tracks that personally lower the CD's value significantly, because what you hear in the other songs, partly thanks to the influences, the excellent production, and anyway a good dose of talent these guys demonstrate to have, is not bad at all.

Certainly nothing epochal and new but all in all an honest Modern "Fake" Rock album (expression coined just now) that is more than pleasant to listen to and may even give you a few little surprises.

Logically, I traded those twenty blue-euro notes for a digital lemon for free ;)

Summary by Bot

Ok Go’s self-titled debut album delivers honest and catchy power pop influenced by Pixies and Flaming Lips. While the production and talent shine, some tracks—especially a slow ballad—drag down the overall experience. This album is pleasant and worth listening to but not groundbreaking.
