LA RECENSIONE

Fearless Records is undoubtedly among the few labels today capable of creating an obsessive anticipation around each of its releases. A significant commercial asset, considering that a young quintet of new generation metalheads like the British Oceans Ate Alaska are among the most cited and talked-about bands in the UK and the States nowadays. As often happens, the local press tends to idolize its offspring, leading to the realization that the truth almost always lies somewhere in the middle. In this case, we could say: Oceans Ate Alaska is a very young band with great fortune on its side, that of having excellent musicians within them, especially after having seen them perform live recently with Veil Of Maya and Chelsea Grin. Their debut "Lost isles" is what we might call next-generation tech-metal, a mix between the technical prowess typical of Periphery, Animals As Leaders, and the destructive fervor of bands like Suicide Silence, Job For A Cowboy, and similar. An album that, although excessively rich in hyper-technical instrumental inputs, shows its primal nature through in your face vocals often supported by choruses that further amplify the warlike potential of our band. An album that – like most Fearless productions – boasts a top-notch studio production, where every single note comes out in the most crystalline way possible and that will surely ruffle the feathers of those accustomed to the good old metal with raw sounds. But fundamentally, for these Oceans Ate Alaska, everything is fine as it is; their fanbase is mostly composed of teenagers who grew up with Bring Me The Horizon and Devil Wears Prada and who will therefore find so much brutality in "Lost isles" that the aforementioned names will seem like lambs in comparison.
