You know those evenings when memories from the past suddenly hit you and you think you could have changed something? Or (if you’re one of those who would do everything all over again if given a chance) you simply recall:

Faces of people whose current lives are a mystery,
Places where something unforgettable happened,
The old magic, in short.

And what if it’s just an illusion on this dead evening?
Maybe the past isn’t so grand after all.
Like Leopardi’s story of the almanac seller, who knows.

I think that when Noel wrote this song, he felt the same way.
Nostalgia is common, nothing unusual in the end.

It’s just that he hit the right notes and used the right words tonight, with that piano in the background.

I remember when I became passionate about Oasis.
I liked their spontaneity, and what those songs communicated to me.

This song deals with the innocence that gives way to awareness.
Awareness that perhaps I still don’t have, such a heavy word.

The fact is that tonight the death of light made me hope, or maybe gave me a pat on the shoulder and told me: you’re still here, and you can do whatever you want with your life.

And they told me,
that the streets were paved with gold,
and there would be no time to get old
when we were young.
