English indie folk band formed in 2006, led by Charlie Fink; debut album Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down (2008) and follow-up The First Days of Spring (2009) received attention for melodic, folk-influenced songwriting. Laura Marling was an early member.

Reviews compare the band’s melodic style to artists such as Okkervil River, Neutral Milk Hotel and note echoes of Arcade Fire and Bill Callahan. Tom Hobden's violin and Charlie Fink's vocals are mentioned as distinctive features. The First Days Of Spring is discussed in the context of emotional recovery and the departure of singer Laura Marling after the first album.

Two DeBaser reviews highlight Noah and the Whale's melodic, folk-rooted songwriting and emotionally direct second album. Reviewers compare their sound to established indie/folk artists and note strong moments across both albums. The First Days Of Spring is described as emotionally urgent; Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down is presented as a summer-friendly debut.

For:Fans of indie folk, melodic songwriting and emotionally direct pop/folk albums.

Usually, during summer afternoons, I crave fairly simple listens, engaging melodies that serve as a backdrop to relaxation moments; there's nothing better than some good modern Folk, I dare say.

There isn’t a boring or superfluous track, not even the two instrumental ones before and after the encouraging "Love of an Orchestra" which, in my opinion, are among the best along with the already mentioned "My Broken Heart" and "Blue Skies", everything flows perfectly, several tracks are similar but without being repetitive.
