A group now almost forgotten, the Neon, or almost. A thing of the past. They belong to that glorious lineage of artists who, in 1980s Florence, were swept away by the impulse of the "new wave", growing up among underground clubs and dark atmospheres. Like all their contemporaries, the Neon are strongly influenced by the British post-punk movement. However, their style is original: they sing in English and offer a synth-rock that is at times surprisingly melodic. In short, something unique in Italy.
"Rituals" (dated 1985) is their first and last work. After that, only a few EPs, then nothing more. Yet it's enough for us to realize the great potential the band had. Their strength lies in the exquisite melodic passages that occasionally burst through the dark sounds of the synthesizers. This is what happens, for example, in "Runnin'" and "Dark age", imbued with pop sounds that make the music of Neon very special.
An excellent debut album, then. It’s a pity they didn’t confirm their talents; their scant discography is, however, something that can be extremely interesting for fans of the genre.
