The genuineness is probably the greatest virtue of this 1997 album by Negrita: a handful of old-school rock songs, with prominent guitars and Pau's voice navigating through lyrics that tackle themes such as love and disillusionment, without neglecting purely light-hearted and ironic episodes.
Let's move on to a quick look at the individual tracks: after the introductory "Bong", the real start is marked by the energetic "..E intanto il tempo passa", which precedes "In un mare di noia" and "Sex", two rather famous tracks with completely opposite atmospheres; then moving on to "Per quello che dai", a light and funny track, and the bitter reflection of "Ma come fanno"; it continues with "I miei limiti" and "XXX", characterized by irreverent irony towards the self-righteous, and especially with the famous "Ho imparato a sognare", a very evocative ballad in which singer Pau plays the harmonica, enhancing its melancholic atmosphere. The subsequent tracks return to a certain lightness, with "Era magico", "A modo mio", and "Io Pocahontas me la farei", before the closing "Lasciami dormire", which ends with a hint of sadness.
In conclusion, it is a pleasant album to listen to, without fillers and with a couple of instrumental interludes that don't hurt. "XXX" preceded two good albums like "Reset" and "Radio Zombie", in which the band from Arezzo grew, refining their sound and improving in songwriting (two examples above all, in my opinion, those little gems titled "Hemingway" and "Hollywood"), before making a questionable turn characterized by participating in Sanremo, among other things with a piece, "Tonight", which I find rather mediocre, and especially with a decisive change in style and sound in the latest album "L'uomo sogna di volare", an album that temporarily distanced me from Negrita.
While waiting for their next musical effort, perhaps with a fitting return to the origins, it's better to listen again to the old works, among which this good "XXX".
"Although the group is Italian, they have not created a monotonous album that only gives space to the singer."
"'Ho imparato a sognare' is the song that, in my opinion, is worth the album: a beautiful musical background with an important message about dreams and motivation."
