The desire to represent the minstrels of the morbid and gruesome must have given Anders Jakobson and Rickard Alriksson the idea to start playing, and what better genre than a perfect mix between death metal and grindcore?
"Pathological Performances" is the evidence that certifies the success of the good intentions of the two hopeful young Swedes (at the time, it was 1993), intentions respected and not betrayed, considering also their continued career in the world of extreme music.
Grind outbursts without restraint of blast beats alternate with long layers of double bass with a typically death flavor coexist with sadistic melodies, some truly macabre, an adjective used not to give the review a tone (which is nonetheless important to do), but quite appropriate because the flute (yes, flute!) at the beginning of “Acute Pyencephalus and Cerebral Decomposure” is truly macabre. The song durations favor the death side of the group to the detriment of the grind, as they go on hefty tracks lasting three to four minutes, with the seven-minute peak in the previously mentioned track.
In all this, the influence of Carcass is evident, not coincidentally in '94 the album of covers "Necronycism: Distorting the Originals" will be released, a tribute to the masters and the other masters (Napalm Death), but in Necrony, there is no rock'n'roll vein that in Carcass will definitively become evident in "Swansong", the more orthodox death DNA prevails, with a voice from an almost brutal band and guitars that start to buzz like out-of-control Swedish chainsaws when one least expects it. To emphasize the "Swedishness," Dan Swanö's production is present, in this case, it's him and not Tomas Skogsberg. Finally, it's unnecessary to talk about the subjects of the lyrics, as just looking at the cover gives enough of an idea.
This is the only album of original material from the group because what initially was supposed to be just a side project along with a certain Mieszko Talarczyk took over, but this as they say is another story, unfortunately ending sadly.
