THE REVIEW

I can't. I really can't understand how a human mind could conceive such a piece of work. Simply astonishing. We know Muse for their debut album "Showbiz," which already showcased the qualities of an adept band but perhaps too close to the sound of other groups, especially Radiohead, with all those piano sounds, etc. In short, "Showbiz" was a beautiful piece of work but perhaps lacked the right punch to be considered a lethal rock'n'roll album.
Well, everything that was missing to make Muse the astonishing band they are today can be found in this "Origin Of Symmetry," an album that is nothing short of spectacular.

The English trio's rock is unique, a magical, incredible music that grabs you, takes you with it, and lets you travel through parallel worlds where symmetry does not yet exist.

"New Born" opens the album tenderly on a bed of piano, before Matthew Bellamy's hyper-distorted guitar blows away everything and everyone, as if to make it clear straight away that Muse are no longer what they once were. And so the CD goes on, a journey into a strange and sick world, between Matt's soft and harsh voice, pure piano notes that wax and wane, distorted guitars that dissolve into thousands of improbable solutions, between angry riffs, twisted and astonishing solos, and a bass, Chris's, that finally makes itself heard in all its bloody power!

An abstract painting of rock, a journey through unexplored dimensions, with the psychotic "Space Dementia," the ballad "Plug In Baby" supported by distorted arpeggios, the incredible "Citizen Erased" that leaves you open-mouthed, the seductive "Darkshined," up to the concluding and decaying "Megalomania" all based on the interplay of organ and voice, to see how much suffering Matthew Bellamy can endure (for the record, the leader has three roles: vocals, guitar, keyboards). Not to mention the cover of "Feeling Good"... folks, put a song like this in the hands of Muse and you get a 'heavy soul' that's truly something spectacular. A masterpiece that will leave you speechless.

Everything starts slowly and then explodes; you drowse only to scream; dreams are told that turn into nightmares.

The Muse might still be a bit too chaotic and baroque for my tastes, but this CD is truly beautiful.
