THE REVIEW

The first track starts and it's dawn: more and more beats that start, wake everything up, overlap and layer the piece and real time to finally bring us to the light of a new morning and in the end, you can even hear some seagull cries. Ok, android-mutant seagulls, but after all, we're in Vulvaland and nothing is the same as we knew it.

Vulvaland is the debut of the German duo Mouse On Mars: a sort of complicated algorithm in search of the music of the future cunningly disguised as a simple disc of seductive electronics... Whether one gets carried away by the morphine-induced parody of the more Jamaican Leftfield of Elli Im Wunderland or the playful infantile mischievous and somewhat acid jungle of Uah, it will be a beautiful journey anyway. And then, how can one not surrender to the enchantment of Chagrin, which seems like a masterpiece abandoned by the Air of that safari on the moon, rediscovered and played dusty as if it were a toy of the Boards Of Canada of Twoism. Oh, magnificent... And then Future Dub, which is not dub, and if it is, it's desperately trying to find itself in a large metropolis.

An album that is not a masterpiece, it often remains a bit too cerebral but is nonetheless beautiful: the airy, exotic, and technological mood is beautiful. The atmosphere is beautiful, it has the scent of genius and pure modern art but also so much of fun. An album that I find increasingly fantastic as it seems to take itself so seriously but at the same time makes fun of itself. In short, the perfect synthesis of avant-garde and (self) irony.

Vulvaland, Mouse On Mars' debut, presents a complex yet alluring blend of futuristic electronic music. The album balances cerebral and playful elements, evoking comparisons to Air and Boards of Canada. Its unique atmosphere mixes avant-garde artistry with a sense of fun and self-irony. Though not flawless, the album remains a beautiful and fascinating listen.
