Disclaimer: I don't know Motörhead at all. I found this album in the library and decided to simply write down my impressions.
I consider "Hammered" quite monotonous after listening to the 11 recorded songs for a while. Despite this, those few times I listen to them (obviously at full blast) I get insanely hyped. The sounds themselves are crazy, full and at the same time destructive (and I'm not talking about my house, which, under the intense vibrations caused by these, shakes along with the whole neighborhood!). The singer's voice, different from the usual rock or metal, is one of the elements that makes me want to listen to Motörhead.
The grit with which the band tackles the twelve musical notes is absurdly different from the usual. Sure, I would never compare Motörhead to Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, or Iron Maiden, but it's still a band worth knowing. When I listen to the riff of Dr. Love, it's automatic for me to shake my head and start belting out! And what about the times when, commuting from home to school with my earbuds plugged into my trusty iPod at maximum volume, so that even twelve blocks away a deaf person would hear what I'm listening to, I end up on Voices From The War? My hand is never still. Frantically, it persists in beating the snare on my pants, with the fingers of my right hand playing the bass drum or the cymbals! Another comment on the splendid Mine All Mine: it always brings a certain melancholy, starting with the guitar strum that introduces the riff, which reminds me of an old Led Zeppelin-style rock (just my impression, of course), or something a little more recent by Guns N' Roses. Melancholy is, however, accompanied (you'll forgive my repetitiveness in using the vocabularies) by a crazy grit!
Even though they will never be my favorites, as I said, the album is worth adding to our libraries.
