Formed in 1986 by five thrashers from Wisconsin, the Morbid Saint were one of the most underrated and unfortunately semi-forgotten metal bands of their time, during the golden age of thrash when countless bands in America and Europe played as hard and fast as possible. After a demo, the band released this "Spectrum Of Death" in 1988, the only studio album published by the group. Their intentions were clear from the start: to push classic thrash metal to its limits, take it beyond the threshold of the extreme in music with a psychotic fury and frantic speed and timing.

At that time, death metal had already been born, and bands like Death, Possessed, Morbid Angel, Pestilence, and Incubus had initiated this genre, which was gaining more traction in the underground. This record can be considered a sort of monstrous hybrid between thrash and death metal, yet played with its own personality and character always with a terrifying charge and aggressiveness. Morbid Saint consisted of Pat Lind (vocals), Mike Chappa (bass), Lee Reynolds (drums), Jay Visser, and Jim Fergades on guitars, unleashing rage and sonic violence in abundance. Every song on this album is a demonstration of pure power and savage sound, with the killer onslaught of drumming without a moment's rest, the massive and suffocating riffs and guitar interplays with fast and atonal ear-splitting solos, and a hysterical, raging, and raspy voice that seems to come from one of the (most dangerous) patients of a criminal asylum. Songs like "Damien", "Crying for Death", "Assassin" or "Scars" among others showcase a cohesive and truly inspired band.

The album already faced distribution problems with the label at the time and didn't get the promotion it deserved. The band toured America with Death; indeed, Shuldiner loved the music of Morbid Saint who in the late 80s enjoyed their peak moment of glory, a glory that unfortunately didn't last long. In '92, the band recorded what was supposed to be their second album: "Destruction System", but something went wrong, and the group released it as a demo. Many years of inactivity followed, interrupted even today from time to time by occasional live dates. Morbid Saint, one of the best extreme metal bands of the '80s, have been unjustly forgotten by many, but just give this "Spectrum Of Death" a listen to realize how valid this violent band was.

"Kill the white rabbit before it kills you it lives on the weakness inside touching your soul with a pure emptiness see the spectrum of death in his eyes!"
