You have all heard at least a little about them... honestly, I expected more from Morbid Angel, a band highly esteemed by everyone in this genre of music. The history indeed speaks much about them and the numerous progress made by this group. I want to state that this album deserves a passing grade but nothing more, and now I will explain why. The album opens strong with "Cleansed In Pestilence," quickly pushing the accelerator, followed by "Enshrined by Grace," a song as beautiful as it is paradigmatic. The other songs are intricate middle paths between good slow ones and some faster-paced tracks like "Stricken Arise" (the song that undoubtedly has the most direct impact of the others). However, the album doesn't go down very smoothly on the first listen unless you're really passionate about the morbid angels. The album concludes at track no. 13 with "Drum Check," which is a drum solo, and at no. 14 with a guitar solo. Listening to these indeed helps understand the wide capabilities of the trio's members. In conclusion, I would say that this CD is nice, but the songs and guitar riffs seem a bit too simple for a group of their caliber, and surely without the logo, this CD would have been a failure. Nonetheless, this group has made history in this music together with a few others and deserves a wide margin of respect.
Right from the start we are completely overwhelmed by the assault of the German panzer known as 'Cleansed In Pestilence (Blade Of Elohim).'
Pete 'Commando' Sandoval seems to almost simulate an anti-aircraft attack in the heart-pounding drum solo 'Drum Check.'
