Monkey Diet is a project of progressive and psychedelic music marked by the most unbridled creativity: the best adjective to define the Bolognese group is "eclectic". rock. Besides, the members of Monkey Diet all have a varied background: bassist Daniele Piccinini comes from Accordo dei Contrari, one of the best Italian progressive jazz realities, while guitarist Gabriele Martelli was part of the progster PropheXy: the very talented drummer Roberto Bernardi played with Like, the Genesis tribute band, and replaced the previous member who had the idea of putting the band together. It is not easy to untangle the changing material of "Inner Gobi": the music, entirely instrumental, flows between odd times, "Crimsonian" atmospheres and heavier moments that can evoke the Black Sabbath or certain typical stoner-rock atmospheres. There are also typically jazz-rock moments thanks to Daniele Piccinini's bass which, at certain points, seems to recall his past with Accordo dei Contrari. The "mood" nonetheless tends towards dark and dark psychedelic atmospheres, although you will not find any retro and nostalgic drift. At the beginning of "Moth," one of my favorite pieces, the specter of the hardest King Crimson appears, then the music becomes psychedelic with hard and sharp thrusts and liquid solos. To fully appreciate the album, a few attentive listens are needed but then, once you get into the quirky spirit of Monkey Diet, satisfaction is assured. We are facing three very prepared musicians who will wrap you with their instrumental spirals in a "mantric" sound journey. The final piece "Viking" ventures into territories not far from certain things by Santana. "Inner Gobi" is distributed by Black Widow.http://www.blackwidow.it/ Available on Bandcamp at the following link: https://monkeydiet.bandcamp.com/releases
