Several members had previously worked with Frank Zappa. Spring Session M (1982) produced singles such as "Destination Unknown", "Words", "Walking in L.A.", and "Windows". Dale Bozzio was noted for her distinctive voice and image; she was married to drummer Terry Bozzio during the band's early years. The band combined pop rock, electronics and new wave/dance-pop sensibilities.
