Mink DeVille were an American rock band led by Willy DeVille, emerging from New York’s mid‑1970s scene and blending rock, R&B, soul, Latin, and roots influences. Their acclaimed albums include Cabretta (1977), Return to Magenta (1978), Le Chat Bleu (1980), Coup De Grâce (1981), Where Angels Fear to Tread (1983), and Sportin’ Life (1985).

Fronted by Willy DeVille (1950–2009), the band rose from the CBGB era and is renowned for songs such as Spanish Stroll, Cadillac Walk, and Heaven Stood Still. Willy DeVille died in 2009 from pancreatic cancer.

Three reviews praise Mink DeVille’s blend of romantic rock, soul, and rock’n’roll, focusing on Le Chat Bleu and Coup De Grâce. The writers highlight cinematic storytelling, Paris-tinged moods, and strong sax/piano arrangements. Live shows are lauded as razor-sharp, even compared to the E Street Band. Willy DeVille’s voice and stage charisma are central, with affection for classics like Spanish Stroll, Cadillac Walk, and Mazurka. Willy DeVille’s 2009 passing is noted with heartfelt respect.
