The Profile

Mind Funk were an American heavy/alt/funk metal band formed in New Jersey in 1989. Initially named Mind Fuck, they changed to Mind Funk upon signing with Epic. Featuring Pat Dubar, Louis Svitek, John Monte, and Reed St. Mark, they released three albums—Mind Funk (1991), Dropped (1993), and People Who Fell From The Sky (1995)—before disbanding in the mid-1990s.

Formed in New Jersey, USA (1989); originally called Mind Fuck, renamed by Epic Records; key members include Pat Dubar, Louis Svitek, John Monte, Reed St. Mark; released three albums: Mind Funk (1991), Dropped (1993), People Who Fell From The Sky (1995); disbanded in the 1990s.

Mind Funk drew praise for a combustible blend of heavy metal, funk, and crossover on their 1991 debut, then pushed into moodier, Seattle-tinged terrain on Dropped. After being dropped by Epic, they soldiered on with Terry Date’s lean production. Their final album slowed into heavy-doom darkness, raw and claustrophobic. Across three records, reviewers hail them as an underrated, ill-fated 90s band.
