LA RECENSIONE

If you're looking for something different, this is definitely not the album for you. But if you want to hear a GOD on guitar and intense vocal performances, this is the album for you!!!

40 minutes of pure Blues is the recipe I recommend for spending an intense hour of your free time—40 minutes of emotion, 40 minutes of damn good guitar tuning (I'm a bassist, if you play guitar you'll die over it)!!!

The recordings are from concerts held between January and February 1969 at Bill Graham's Fillmore West in San Francisco. Musicians of the caliber of Taj Mahal, Nick Gravenites, and many others, including saxophonists, conga players, a bassist, a keyboardist, an organist, and a trumpeter, participated in these performances.

The album opens with "It Takes Time", a great blues piece where Gravenites' heartfelt singing and Mike's ever-angry guitar stand out in the background of the vocals, with the horns creating that setting present throughout the album, seemingly bowing to the greatest guitarist of all time, MIKE BLOOMFIELD (in my opinion, the best guitarist along with Jimi Hendrix for execution taste). Listening continues with "Oh Mama" where Bloomfield seems to recite a sweet poem, his voice not inferior to Gravenites'... quite the opposite!!! A classic finale for a classic piece, but always effective. "Love Got To Me" is sung by drummer Bob Jones and opens with a beautiful horn intro and continues in the style of "THE BAND". The last track on the first side is a very long song, great improvisation and another great Nick.

The second side opens with "One More Mile To Go", a predictable blues, almost a continuation of the previous piece, but this time featuring the soulful voice of Taj Mahal... what chills, this is BLUES!!! A more suffering voice gives a different, more vintage air. "It's About Time" is the last sung song, faster, with a few funky influences for another great piece divinely sung by Nick. What a riff interplay!!! "Carmelita Skiffle" is the last piece and, as mentioned, it's an instrumental track, festive atmosphere, great Walking Bass and lots of Les Paul riffs, unmistakable sax solos for an exceptional ending.

AN ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE ALBUM!!!
