They were and remain pearls of sweetness those words contained here:
''[...]Man manu ca passunu i jonna sta frevi mi trasi ‘nda lI’ossa
‘ccu tuttu ca fora c’è ‘a guerra mi sentu stranizza d’amuri
I’amuri e quannu t’ancontru ‘nda strata mi veni ‘na scossa ‘ndo cori
‘ccu tuttu ca fora si mori na’ mori stranizza d’amuri… I’Amuri.
"

And, translated, it becomes: as the days go by
this fever gets into my bones
Even if outside there is war
I feel a strangeness of love…love
and when I meet you on the street
I get a shock in my heart
with everything dying outside
this strangeness of love doesn’t die…love.

Indeed, very touching already.

...but in Love Wants Love, collection of the ''best'' from the now distant 96 A.D. , taking away The Song of the Sea [8], what pearls are there? fractions of ''ideal encyclic purity'' [for Baglioni’s fans ready to argue], ok...fractions of fractions, to put it nicely. Stuff that’s more conceptually overused if you like, starting from The Blue Rose with the voice that precisely flirts with our national Claudio [to whom I'll forgive some songs here and there ndt], and the melodies of the ''tails'' all easily confusable with each other. Disappointing is the choice of the title track for that ''while you press your dress to the railing'', like the rest are all the others in the first half of the cd. Nothing in there equals this furthermore, on the theme of the heart:

What a sensation of light madness
is coloring my soul
imagining I prepare the pillow someone
is already in the air...someone
naive smile fragrance
The record player the red lights and then
iced champagne and the adventure can begin now
I light the fire and sit near someone
tonight someone’s coming...someone
I smile in the meantime I smoke
But how come you here tonight
you’re mistaken you know I couldn’t ...
I swear I wasn’t expecting anyone
strange atmosphere
but what are you saying my dear
these are not rehearsals no oh no
a little fire to warm up a bit
and little light to dream of you no
Sit here next to me my soul
and let go of your jealousy if you can
by chance I have a bit of champagne if you want my love
how beautiful you are...my love
smile and let yourself go
who could be knocking at this time of night
it must be a joke or a friend and who knows
no don’t get up whoever it is
they will get tired...my love
how beautiful you are...my love
I still have a shiver in my heart
But how come you here tonight

you’re mistaken you know I couldn’t...
you’re mistaken you know I couldn’t...

But back to Zarrillo, The Elephant and the Butterfly is not so bad [a 6+] and the closing track, a puzzle of his childhood, is after all acceptable [7]

p.s. I had to take the cd for a relative, no offense to detractors and fans.

Cinque giorni che ti ho perso
quanto freddo in questa vita
ma tu
non mi hai cercato più
troppa gente che mi chiede
scava dentro la ferita
e in me
non cicatrizzi mai
faccio male anche a un amico
che ogni sera è qui
gli ho giurato di ascoltarlo
ma tradisco lui e me
perchè quando tu sei ferito non sai mai
oh mai
se conviene più guarire
o affondare giù
per sempre
amore mio come farò a rassegnarmi a vivere
e proprio io che ti amo ti sto implorando
aiutami a distruggerti
cinque giorni che ti ho perso
mille lacrime cadute
ed io
inchiodato a te
tutto e ancora più di tutto
per cercare di scappare
ho provato a disprezzarti
a tradirti a farmi male
perchè quando tu stai annegando non sai mai
oh mai
se conviene farsi forza
o lasciarsi andare giù
nel mare
amore mio come farò a rassegnarmi a vivere
e proprio io che ti amo ti sto implorando
aiutami a distruggerti
se un giorno tornerò nei tuoi pensieri
mi dici tu chi ti perdonerà
di esserti dimenticata ieri
quando bastava stringersi di più
parlare un po'

e proprio io che ti amo ti sto implorando
aiutami a distruggerti.
