THE REVIEW

Michel Gondry (Fra): videoclip of "Human Behaviour", Björk (Isl) from "Debut" (1994)

You stay enclosed in your little house in the woods and don't realize that those fragile walls cannot protect you from the threats that move, between the shadows and the Moon, there amidst and in the sky: anyone could blow on the door and make everything collapse. You don't know that the good ones won't be able to arrive and the good hunter has already been killed. You're there, and suddenly you feel the unease growing within you: a predator is on your trail. Inexorable and ruthless.

At that moment, instinct pushes you to run and throw yourself among the thorns, ponds, and untraveled paths of the forest, now everything around you could be the beast: the bloodthirsty creature. Desperate, you run, breathe heavily, and your heart seems to go crazy, but adrenaline is the only thing you have left: even though you know you're lost and your legs start to give way, you don't give up. Until you wake up in the monster's belly.

Officially inspired by the fairy tale "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", but for the writer also by the atmospheres of those by Charles Perrault, the video is a little masterpiece (the first work by Gondry outside the French market that brought him to international prominence) created by mixing animation and live-action footage: the "creatures" and sets were all handcrafted, enhancing the fairy-tale effect (thus almost thriller: all fairy tales are horror stories adapted for the little ones) that perfectly complements the soundscapes of the song.

A perfect combination of Nordic coolness and Latin fantasy.
