Let's start with something: I am a complete newbie, I have never written a review on DeBaser, so please show a bit of mercy. And I also think it's not right to hide my true age: I was born in 1993, and I'm not ashamed to show it. With this, I begin my review.
"Thriller", Michael Jackson's masterpiece album (of which I am and will always remain a huge admirer), is undoubtedly something unimaginable, an incredible album in its completeness and variety. But there is especially one fact that makes us stagger in front of this cover: this, folks, is the best-selling album in the history of music.
I will now present the tracklist, followed by a comment on each song.
Alright. We can begin with the actual review.
"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", in my opinion, is an excellent song to start an album of this kind. Its decidedly danceable notes make it a great piece of dance/soul music, which, since it's Michael Jackson, is never a bad thing.
"Baby Be Mine", on the other hand, transports us to completely different frequencies: here we are talking about true R&B, with a warm and tremendously sensual voice that grabs you and doesn't let go.
"The Girl Is Mine" is, in my opinion, a fish out of water on this album. I'll immediately explain why: it's a simple scheme, dry pop, definitive. It has nothing to do with the remaining eight stunning, but decidedly more sophisticated, songs.
"Thriller" is the right title track for an MJ record. It gives the album a certain charm that a title like "The Lady In My Life" or "P.Y.T." certainly wouldn't provide. The track speaks for itself: it's a mix of everything Jacko offers us on this album. Because when you're able to make a song that's at once dance and R&B, pop and rock, you need to have a certain talent. When you then add a meticulously crafted and terrifying text and an interlude with Vincent Price's voice, the work can be said to have the cherry on top.
Let's talk about "Beat It": another track, another genre. It almost touches true rock, with an interesting electric guitar instrumental section that breaks up the rhythm of the extraordinary voice of the king of Pop, preventing the listener from dozing off to the simple and brilliant refrain, masterfully interpreted by good old Michael.
"Human Nature" is another huge masterpiece taken from "Thriller". A wonderful text, almost philosophical, that reflects on mankind and its surroundings, here too aligns in perfect harmony with sweet notes of soft R&B.
With "P.Y.T." we return to the dance rhythms that distinguish the period straddling the seventies and eighties, here MJ gives us another great interlude and performance, with a fantastic rhythm and a refrain that stays in your head for quite some time.
"The Lady In My Life" beautifully and more than soothingly concludes this fantastic album, persuading us with one of the sweetest and most melodic love songs by Michael.
I've purposefully saved "Billie Jean" for last. What can I say? A masterpiece, the essence of MJ, many, countless awards for this fantastic piece of Pop/R&B which is the true dragging pearl of "Thriller", perhaps the greatest success of all time for Michael Jackson, a real gem perfectly intertwined more or less halfway through the CD.
In conclusion, I would like to say that in my opinion, this is not a simple album, it is a true work of art, simply perfect in its variety, without ever exaggerating.
‘Thriller’ is a masterpiece of musical construction, a Nietzschean will to power in wanting to become the number one.
The Thriller project encapsulates in itself any strategy feasible to make one’s music a universal language, comprehensible to all.
The answer to all these questions is just one, Thriller.
Billie Jean... alone it is worth the price of the record, the iconic track of the 80s, I bow to such greatness.
Thriller is such a rare musical phenomenon with no precedent.
If along with the superstar status, you add 9 beautiful tracks that deserve to be injected into the heritage of anyone who has turned on a radio in the last 25 years, then you can surely think that this is not a rare phenomenon, but a unique one.
"Thriller is indeed universal. It bridges the two cultures, offering if not a 'new' genre, a refined and complete pop."
"'Billie Jean' is one of those songs that will be remembered as long as music exists. Immortal."
Thriller is still the best-selling album of all time, with approximately 110 million copies sold.
A truly unique album that will always remain a true benchmark for any contemporary pop work.
