Michael Apted (10 February 1941 – 7 January 2021) was a British film director and producer, known for the long-running Up documentary series and feature films including Coal Miner's Daughter and Gorillas in the Mist.

Directed the Up documentary series; directed Gorillas in the Mist (1988) starring Sigourney Weaver; directed Continental Divide (1981) starring John Belushi; directed feature films including Coal Miner's Daughter (1980) and the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough (1999). Died 7 January 2021.
