Rating: Martini Mia is the album that returns the singer from Bagnara Calabra to the great public after years of forced isolation. We all know the story, and unfortunately, it will only be a brief return.
Even Almeno tu nell’universo is a song we all know, and no performer will ever be able to match it. Elisa courageously attempted it 14 years later, creating a more intimate and less edgy version, but the result remains unattainable.
Speaking of intimacy. Have you ever listened to a song in the dark with headphones, drifting away for a while, no matter where? For me, it happens with Notturno, which I find the most beautiful and evocative piece of the album. In my opinion, it surpasses Almeno tu nell’universo, perhaps because the latter is one that many of us have sung, or simply because at times I too ‘‘Would only like to manage to free a night plane slipping through the blue’’.
I think that Notturno very much identifies Mimì's personality with her way of isolating herself and hiding her sufferings to find the strength to get back in the game.
‘’Turn off your mind and go, detach your thoughts, be taken away by her’’. She sings this way in the only track she entirely composed on the album, with that rapid spoken singing style that characterizes the verses of this pleasant and upbeat song.
The relationship with men is another significant chapter of her life. Donna is the manifesto song against violence against women and their desire to fight. A gem crafted for her by Enzo Gragnaniello, with whom a fruitful collaboration began.
The imprint of Enzo's guitars and Neapolitan style is most felt in Strade che non si inventeranno mai da sole and in Statte vicino a me where Mimì demonstrates her versatility in being able to interpret lighter tracks and not only serious and engaged songs. This is also true for the new version of the Greek nursery rhyme Agapimu.
This aspect of Mimì has gone rather unnoticed.
She did not want to die in that damned Zona Venerdì while listening to her songs with headphones.
