This is my third review published on DeBaser, and after two great albums, I want to review a bad one. That said, I could stop here since I've already been very clear and concise, but like any respectable review, I have the duty to further describe my point of view.
Having said that, Metallica will always remain one of the greatest bands for me, and without a doubt one of my favorites. I remain objective, however, and I'll talk about this album, whose release was much discussed and eagerly anticipated.

For me, St. Anger comes across as a sterile album, lacking any creative flair, flat, with only the desire to be heavy, attempting to match the wonders of the past (see Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning...) while denying what they recently did (see Load and ReLoad). Unfortunately, the result was counterproductive!

Trivial songs, nothing to do with real Thrash, a mix of heaviness (in the very sense that it just bores you!), hardcore, and... it's not clear. The tracks never vary and are disproportionately long, dead boring, lacking solos and changes in tempo. In short, creativity is missing. An album, in my opinion, released only to tell the world, "we are Metallica and we still know how to make hard music", yes, that's true, but heaviness also requires mastery (which they had in abundance... 20 years ago), and this album certainly lacks it. Luckily, I didn't rush to the store to buy it original! Rating: 2

"St. Anger is not only an abomination of the post 'Hetfield Amish Style' era but is also a hodgepodge of sounds with a setting that is too Nu for a RealMetallicaLover."

"We find choruses absolutely devoid of meaning, almost as if trying to mimic a style that has never belonged to them."

The entire CD is accompanied by annoying noises akin to a hardware store that are simply irritating.

I don’t recommend it to anyone, hoping for the next album that should be released in summer 2007.
